this year...
  • keep a record of daily expenditures in my planner and form a budget; then stick to it.
  • begin a meaningful career, teaching
  • take measures to improve my relationship with Shin
  • sew
  • practice music
  • cook more often at home, and exercise 2x per week
  • practice Japanese first, Korean if there is time
  • live happily... and quit allowing stress to consume me.

This is what I will do in order to improve this new year and forward.

carbon footprint

  • Aug. 7th, 2008 at 7:08 AM
seems like i dont "journal" much but rather post little things... i guess for now it's just a time capsule. here's another item for the time capsule~
i went to: http://achievenetgreen.com/calculate-your-carbon
one of many carbon calculators. i pulled out all my bills and calculated my mileage to be as accurate as possible. though, on the airplane part i had to fudge a little b/c my air travel is so... sporadic. this year i haven't flown at all, but since i'd flown some previous years, i had to make an "average flight miles/year" estimate... otherwise my footprint would be too low. i think this is an ok foot print, but i know that if i change my habits a bit, i could definitely make this one even lower.

freaky name quiz

had to post this because.... it freaked me out. like 95% accurate. (O..O;;

What Aileen Means

You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection.

You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive.

You have the classic "Type A" personality.

You tend to be pretty tightly wound. It's easy to get you excited... which can be a good or bad thing.

You have a lot of enthusiasm, but it fades rather quickly. You don't stick with any one thing for very long.

You have the drive to accomplish a lot in a short amount of time. Your biggest problem is making sure you finish the projects you start.

You are relaxed, chill, and very likely to go with the flow.

You are light hearted and accepting. You don't get worked up easily.

Well adjusted and incredibly happy, many people wonder what your secret to life is.

You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone.

You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together.

At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together.

You are very intuitive and wise. You understand the world better than most people.

You also have a very active imagination. You often get carried away with your thoughts.

You are prone to a little paranoia and jealousy. You sometimes go overboard in interpreting signals.

2008 Tiger Fortune

  • Feb. 19th, 2008 at 8:23 AM
The Tiger are said to have a year of mobility, meaning you have chances to move home/office, travel and experience different changes. You would also travel on business or for leisure more often than usual.

Fmaous Tiger:
Leonardo Dicaprio, Stephen Chow, Debbie Allen, Kofi Annan, Sir David Attenborough, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands,Victoria Beckham, Beethoven, Tony Bennett, Tom Berenger, Chuck Berry, Jon Bon Jovi, Sir Richard Branson, Emily Bronte, Mel Brooks, Isambard Kingdom Brunel, Agatha Christie,

Your reading:
The Tiger are said to have a year of mobility, meaning you have chances to move home/office, travel and experience different changes. You would also travel on business or for leisure more often than usual. For those of you who got used to frequent changes, you surely would not find any problem dealing with them. Yet, for those of you who are more used to a stable environment, you might not know how to react. Just be prepared for them. You don’t need to worry too much either because these changes might as well as positive. For instance, you may move from a small flat to a large one; or you may have major achievements in career terms. Of course, those born in summer or spring would do better. The changes you experience are more likely to bring you good luck. On the other hand, those born in winter or autumn should prepare for relatively not as lucky as the Tigers born in summer or spring. No matter how much you hate your job, it’s not a good time to quit. You might have traveled on business a lot without any out-port allowance, but you should still hang in there. It’s because it’s not likely that changing to another job would do you any good. (In fact, things are likely to get even worse with more changes you introduce) Thus, try to bear with whatever hardship and don’t act impulsively.

This year, the Tigers have to work hard on their own to make money, which is actually good news for those who get paid by the volume of work, such as those self-employed or professionals (.e. lawyers, doctors or accountants). It’s because you would have a busy year while your income grows in proportion. Real estate agents, financial consultants and insurance salespersons would get more clients and make more money.

In terms of lucky stars, you have Yi Ma, meaning movement, traveling and changes. You would have chances to get a new job. Those born in summer and spring should give it a try. Those born in winter and autumn would be better off staying with your old job. It’s better to stay still than to explore new opportunity aggressively.

You have star Gu Chen, meaning loneliness. You might feel lonely because you travel on business by yourself.

Other stars include Sang Men and Si Sang also in your constellation, meaning you should pay attention to the health conditions of the elderly at home. Luckily, these two stars are not very ferocious and they don’t do much harm. There isn’t any sign of conflicts in your Palace of Parents either. Thus, they should be fine.

Fall Schedule 2007

  • Sep. 23rd, 2007 at 4:44 PM
hopefully this is going to be a good quarter, i think it's a pretty manageable schedule, and i am able to work enough, although my mom still thinks it's too much. after having such a hard time last year, my mom has changed her tune. usually she wants me to work alot nad be "responsible" but now she's like, "20 hours per week, max! you need to have better grades," which is totally fine with me, if i could afford not to work, but we'll see how things go.

tribute to macbook

  • Aug. 17th, 2007 at 12:03 AM
this quarter has been tough as hell, i thought it couldnt get any worse between work, relatives, and the double commute of uw AND bcc when my laptop DIED. luckily for me, Kane hall has bountiful inventories of laptops for free to rent to students, so  i tried out dell and then mac, and been sticking with mac ever since. i dont know if i will buy one yet, but if it were thust upon me, i would take it. for sure ^^

one of the funnest apps was photobooth, which here i have created a still montage of some of the good times macbook and i had together, via photobooth:

l-r/t-b: sepia, b&w, glow, comic, normal, colored pencil, thermal camera, x-ray, pop art

too bad the mac goes back to kane for the rest of summer. thank-you and goodbye~

american idol: seattle

  • Jan. 17th, 2007 at 5:58 PM

today is american idol in seattle auditions!! hahahahaha... let's see how bad this is? last week paula was on Q13 morning news and said that the best delusional people, err... at least the baddest singers in the deepest of denial, were here in my own seattle =]
funny thing though, i was there at key arena on the day auditions took place. so it'll be neat to see if any of the people i saw coming out of the building that day will be on tv tonight. and see how well they did. well, well... this should be entertaining.

What Your Bathroom Habits Say About You

You are a giving soul. Way too giving in fact. You often get stuck doing the dirty work that no one else will do.

You spend a lot on clothes, and you tend to be a very dresser. However, it's hard for you to throw away trendy clothes when they go out of style.

You have the perfect blend of confidence and class. You're proud of who you are - but you don't broadcast it.

In relationships, you tend to be very romantic and demanding. You'll treat your partner like gold, but you expect a lot in return.

のだめカンタービレの玉木宏

  • Jan. 15th, 2007 at 6:26 PM
so, yesterday~ i was flipping through channels looking for korean dramas, and ended up watching some japanese drama called: のだめカンタービレ, "nodame cantabile". i'm not entirely sure of the story, since it seemed to be the last 2 episodes, and it didnt help that there were no subtitles either... and i can't say that i particularly liked it as there was a lot of physical comedy that seemed maybe too brutal, or not particularly funny--then again, it could be cultural preference?--but anyway, one thing i did find attractive about the program, aside from the beautiful, classical music, was the leading male character,
千秋真一 Chiaki Shinichi, played by Tamaki Hiroshi 玉木宏. =3

I think he is some kind of composer or orchestrator in this drama. anyway, i had heard of him a long long time ago from "hey hey hey music champ", or some similar program (?) i dont know, it was sooooo long ago, but at that time i didnt think too much of him except for downloading his song: 'emotion'. he didn't have such great hair back then... maybe it was too trendy looking? but i really like the way he is in this drama (except for the violent physical comedy part -_-;;?)
well, it looks as though it may snow tonight/tomarrow morning? damn it. well, i am definitely going to find someone and FORCE them to carpool me. i cannot miss another day of school. seriously.

i WILL keep my resolutions!

  • Jan. 13th, 2007 at 11:46 PM
err... there really is nothing to write about today. it's sooooooooooo boring. let's see. i went to work early this morning, met my friend Galen on the way so we can go there together since it was snowy and icy for him to walk. after work i came home to pebbles who was very very happy to see me again--these days i dont take her in the car with me to places anymore because it is simply too too cold. she hates staying at home alone, but it's not like i have a lot of choice. =( --so after i got home i stayed there, checked the mail, and then never went out again. i stayed in and ate, talked on the phone, watched tv, rearranged furniture, thought about things, began working on some of the things i thought about, and took naps with pebble.

not too exciting, although i guess yesterday was.

i got to go to my very first sonics game ever (maybe also my last if they end up moving) with my friend, hiroshi. it was pretty boring and predictable at first, sonics losing and losing... and then, during the third qtr they ended up tying up the game! 73:73 i think it was? after that i was hooked. and the best part? WE WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOON~!! hooray!! x3 couldn't have been a better first game: i didn't have to drive there, got really good seats for only $15, was in good company, even there weren't any drunko's or crazies (and the ones who were there actually had funny things to say), and my team won.
after the game i had to go home and hand off all my gear to kyohei so he could go snowboarding at whistler, where he is as i am typing, for the holiday weekend. *sigh*... i was supposed to be on that trip. oh well. hope he is having fun. he is probably drinking right now. well, so am i. ha!
this will have to suffice for now. ah, maybe i will throw in a quiz or two for filler

You Are a Auditory Learner

You tend to remember what you hear, and you have a knack for speaking well.
You excel at debating, foreign languages, and music.
You would be an excellent diplomat - or rock star!

You Are Strawberry Pocky

Your attitude: fresh and sweet
Comforting, yet quirky ... quietly hyper
You always see both sides to everything

You Are Strawberry Ice Cream

A bit shy and sensitive, you are sweet to the core.
You often find yourself on the outside looking in.
Insightful and pensive, you really understand how the world works.

You are most compatible with chocolate chip ice cream.

hmm... i didnt mean to do so many (in fact i did alot more than this) but i have been waiting for nancy to call me back. hm.

snow x 2!/things that make me happy pt. ii

  • Jan. 11th, 2007 at 5:16 PM
why am i not surprised?
news from my close neighboring areas:

bothell, everett, lynnwood, and seattle

this is my area  \(^o^)/

mill creek, wa
every single channel you flip to (that is showing news) has something to say about the weather, 3/4 of the stories are weather related if the aren't the weather forecast itself. *sigh* this is nice.
just stay home and safely relax w/my gyokurocha and maccha sponge cake, YUM! =9 anyway.
i waited until 740a this morning to make my decision. it was kind of bad yesterday, but the snow was still light and powdery when it was time to head out, so i went anyway--with the intention of coming back long before sunset (usu. around 430p this time of year). on my way home it seemed as though the snow had melted--exit 175, nothing; 181, nothing; 183, practically nothing... so i get off there and head up bothell-everett highway. as soon as i cross dumas road, there is a clear sign of demarcation! the very next block was frosted white and every one thereafter accumulated even more snow. by the time i got home it began to snow again, on/off throughout the night.
dont get me wrong, i am not afraid of a little snow. it's just the ICE. i can't drive on ice, and w/o my parents around, i really can't afford therisk of anything going wrong. =/ plus, pebbles depends on me too. hopefully i don't miss school tomorrow. i can't afford to fall behind this qtr--which is proving to be the most difficult i've ever taken, yet!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

things that make me happy (pt. ii) =D

  • Jan. 8th, 2007 at 7:17 PM
well, house is almost done being clean--although focusing on it is quite the time consuming distraction. since i have so much to study is why it is only almost clean. anyway, for a bit i was pausing in my studies of econ and environmentalism to email back and forth with my parents when they sent me this photo:

vania and i at the husky deli in w. seattle hardly an hour before she left for the airport,
only to find the flight massively delayed... and check out that sweet manicure, too! xD

i like this picture just because
1 - it's funny, and
2 - you can see the family resemblance~ ha!

people always think she is my sister, now it's obvious as to why. =)

lonely days~

  • Jan. 7th, 2007 at 7:53 PM
*siiiiiiiiiiiiiigh*
today is my first complete day of rest and break, quite unexpectedly.

throughout my winter break i was either working, socializing, doing errands for family, or taking the kids out on the town--all of which i felt completely obliged to do, not a shred of avarice, i felt very restless.
the new year brought celebration, happiness and then sadness through parting--especially in the case of my younger brother, whom i did not get to see the morning of his departure =(.
although, a brief peak of surprise and bliss did arise in the form of the airline's unreliability, resulting in a few more precious hours with my aunty, uncle and cousin. inevitably they had to leave, and the following day i drove my parents to the airport and watched them leave.
the next days brought onslaughts of homework, followed by a 14-hr saturday of work work work--babysitting pebbles pebbles pebbles. and then i found out the rack wasn't making work today! hooray! even though i won't be making that money, it is nice to have a day, to just chill. friday was supposed to be my day to unwind and clean up the house after school, but it ended up being the "fed-ex important papers to parents, pronto" day and then go home and vacuum.

anyway, now i just feel sad. it is lonely being home alone. being the middle of three kids, i guess it's difficult to be on my own? so this is probably a good experience for me. i need to learn to be more independent =/

in order to take my mind off the sharp edge loneliness brings, i've decided to take up a couple projects--hopefully i will see them through.
while i go around cleaning and organizing, i am going to try to put some of the art works my brothers and i have done, that are lying around the house, on more noticeable display.

maybe even create some new art.

and then any other time i have ought to go into more in depth study.

it's only been the first 1/2 week, but this qtr has all ready shown itself to be much more difficult than any of its predecessors.
here we go.

PS
i changed to layout to tomy the tomato--yay! x3
i've also been really liking u2 classics a lot these days. they so rock.

i really ought to have been studying, but vania and i were having so much fun with this stuff!!

aileen's

*kristin kreuk is understandable, but boa? definitely doesn't belong here. she's too too cute.

vania's

*i think this one is pretty accurate for vania, but maybe a different picture of matsu takako?

will's

*even though it says edward and jolin as the least, i really think they match the most?

ahhh~ we're so famous looking, huh?? =] well, maybe william is. he probably looks thebest--not to say that vania and i aren't cute. but anyway, it's all in good fun. i kind of wish i'd gotten people like katherine zeta-jones, kiera knightley, or katie leung... somebody more cuter and well-known =/ ah well.

but it's good for william that he got girl look-alikes though. i heard on the news that according to studies, women tend to find males with more "feminine" features more physically appealing. hm?

the day before

  • Jan. 2nd, 2007 at 7:21 PM
ugghhhh... so not looking forward to school tomarrow =(
uuuuuuuuugggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh... i can't believe my break is over!! i dont even feel--'broken', and by that i mean, 'rested'. i get iwata-sensei, and i'm not ready. i forgot to get the coursepack so i wake up extra early~~ aigooz...

but! i took this cute picture of my new keychain, tomy, the tomato! can you see him?

...did i mention that my whole family will be leaving me within the next 2 days? and that i'm going to miss them like hell and am all ready begining to? everyone who flew in flies out tomarrow, and my parents go the very next night. utter despair. ='(
